8th Grade Advanced Band

Classes
Eighth Grade Band is Advanced Band and most students have had at least two years of experience playing an instrument.  We begin the year by building on fundamentals of music from Sixth and Seventh Grade Bands and grow these musical concepts and skills as we rehearse and perform music of various styles and genres.

Eighth Grade Band is divided into two classes: winds (all woodwinds and brass) and percussion. Classes meet separately each day but combine for performances and field trips, etc.

Extras
Eighth graders have the opportunity to participate in Pep Band and Jazz Band (more information to come in January about these extra-curricular ensembles).  Eighth graders are encouraged to check out the Honors Band page and consider auditioning for All-County Band and All-District Band.

Eighth Grade Winds (woodwinds, brass) Supply List
Along with an instrument, students should have:

• Foundations for Superior Performance method book for your specific instrument (authors King, Williams, & Williams) (available through Amazon.com)
• folding music stand for home practice
• cleaning supplies and accessories (reeds, valve oil, slide grease, etc.)
• 1/2-inch black binder (soft or hard cover) with 10+ clear page protectors​

Eighth Grade Percussion Supply List

• bell kit for home practice; snare drum sticks; xylophone, marimba, and timpani mallets, pitch pipe (more info. about these items will be provided in class)
• Five Minute Drill method book (authors Hicks, Rath) (suggest purchasing through www.lonestarpercussion.com)
• folding music stand for home practice
• 1/2-inch black binder (soft or hard cover) with 10+ clear page protectors
