Hello Charger families! We are off to a great start in building a fantastic tradition of musical excellence during our first several years at AFMS, and I'm excited about what's to come in the years ahead! I have worked in Wake County Schools for over twenty-five years, and prior to AFMS, I was the Band Director at Dillard Drive MS. While at Dillard Drive, I earned National Board Certification in 2002 and was named Teacher of the Year in 2004.
I earned undergraduate and master’s degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill in music education as a Morehead-Cain Scholar. I’ve always had a passion for research and math as well as music, and this led me to a PhD degree in music education from UNC-Greensboro with a focus on how music and math are intertwined in the classroom. I enjoy sharing my passion for music and the arts to help students develop a love for music during these exciting middle school years. I love that Band offers students the opportunity to develop their individual musical skills as well as reinforce academics in literacy, math, and other subject areas. We then share these skills and talents with others through performing as well as learning to work together as a team towards a common goal. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful husband and our three amazing children who always keep us on our toes! Go Chargers! |
